U19s Draw

Posted May 6, 2013

EAST FIFE U19 2 COWDENBEATH U19 2

Despite a late comeback the under 19s bowed out of the League Cup at Kettle Park on Sunday afternoon. The Methil side only needed a draw to qualify for the semi finals and went 2-0 up at the interval with two goals within the space of 60 seconds.

Playing down the steep slope Daryl Falconer opened the scoring after 36 minutes when he volleyed a shot into the far corner of the Cowden net and within a minute Ross Brown doubled their advantage rounding keeper Ricky Barnett to slot the ball home.

Despite having Lea Schiavone sent off midway through the second half we staged a late comeback with Dan Hall reducing the deficit with 14 minutes to go and with a minute to go Jack Nicholson fired home an equaliser.

As we went for a winner an East Fife defender appeared to handle the ball in the box but our penalty claims were waived aside and Michael Fleming picked up a second yellow card and was sent off for protesting.

Forfar Athletic and East Fife now move onto the semi finals after finishing on 16 points, a point ahead of us. The Loons will host Livingston in the semi finals while East Fife travel to Hamilton.

We now just have two home Reserve League Cup games to complete our season, both at home to East Fife and Raith Rovers.
