Cowden Fall To Derby Defeat

Posted April 21, 2013

DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC 1 COWDENBEATH 0

A penalty from former Central Parker Stephen Husband midway through the second half gave the Pars a narrow win in the Fife derby at East End Park on Saturday to see them move above us on goal difference with both teams now on 33 points with two games to play.

In a match spoilt by the wind Dunfermline had the ball in the net after ten minutes but Ryan Thomson's goal was ruled offside by the far side assistant referee. The goal which seperated the sides came in the 67th minute when Alan Smith was brought down in the box and Husband slotted his spot kick down the middle of the goal to give his side the points.

Thanks to their better goal difference the Pars now hold the advantage in the battle to avoid the play offs as we drop down to ninth place in the Irn Bru First Division.

Next up for Colin Cameron's side is a visit from Dumbarton in our last home game of the campaign on Saturday. The Sons moved onto 39 points after a 4-1 home win over relegated Airdrie United at the Bet Butler Stadium and need to avoid defeat at Central Park to secure their First Division status for next season. They then end their fixtures with a home game against champions Partick Thistle.

Dunfermline travel to Firhill to face the champions and then end their fixtures with a home game with Airdrie United.

The next two week's are big ones for the team with wins required against the Sons and at Hamilton on the closing day so lets get behind the lads in our quest to avoid the play offs, your support is vital!
