MATCH PREVIEW – DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC
It’s the BIG one on Saturday when we make the short trip west to face neighbours Dunfermline Athletic in the final Fife derby of the season.
The Pars have held the upper hand in the previous meeting this season with two wins while we won the last game between the sides at Central Park in February.
The sides met on the opening day of the league season at Central Park with Andy Barrowman, Ryan Thomson with a brace and Josh Falkingham giving them a 4-0 win.
The first trip to East End Park will be long remembered for the extended half time due to the referee being injured.
Joe Cardle had given Dunfermline a half time lead and when we eventually got the second half started an own goal from John Armstrong and a late goal from Craig Dargo gave the home side a 3-0 win.
The midweek visit of the Pars in February saw a 4-2 win for Cowden, Lewis Milne had given us an early lead but two goals midway through the second half from Andy Dowie and Andy Kirk gave the visitors the lead against the run of play.
However a brace from Scott Linton either side of a Kane Hemmings goal gave us a deserved three points.
All this of course happened before Dunfermline entered administration. Seven senior players were made redundant by the administrator so it will be a much changed squad that we will face on Saturday afternoon.
COWDEN FORM
Last week’s win at Starks Park was our first away Irn Bru First Division win since early September.
We are currently unbeaten in our last two games after drawing 2-2 with Livingston the previous Tuesday evening.
Our away league record so far this season is
Played 16, Won 3, Drawn 4, Lost 9, Goals For 18, Goals Against 29, Points 13.
DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC FORM
The Pars now find themselves in ninth place and three points below us following their 15 point deduction from the SFL.
Not too surprisingly with their off the park problems the Pars form has dipped in the second half of the campaign.
They have lost their last eight home league and cup games with their last home win coming on 2nd January when they beat Raith Rovers 1-0.
Last Saturday they however had a morale boosting 1-0 win over Morton at Cappielow with Ryan Thomson getting their goal.
Dunfermline’s home league record this season is
Played 16, Won 5, Drawn 2, Lost 9, Goals For 25, Goals Against 27, Points 17.
PLAYER TO WATCH
In a much changed squad Josh Falkingham has been made team captain by Jim Jeffries recently.
The 22 year old midfielder had a few interesting tussles with us last season whilst with Arbroath and was also on the score sheet on the opening day of the season at Central Park.
