Match Preview: Arbroath v Cowdenbeath

Posted October 16, 2009

The Blue Brazil are on the road this weekend with a trip up the coast to face Arbroath at Gayfield.

The club has made an impressive start to life in the 2nd Division and rounded off the first quarter of the season with a resounding 5-0 home win over Peterhead last weekend. Cowden have now won four of their last five league games and moved into third place in the table last Saturday.

John McGlashan's Arbroath team won the opening day fixture between the sides 2-1 after Kenny Adamson and Dene Droudge (pictured) had been dismissed to reduce Cowden to ten men. The Smokies have found the going tough in recent weeks though and lost 0-3 at home to then bottom side Clyde on Wednesday night but Cowden boss Danny Lennon warned his side against any complacency:

"We go into the game this weekend with confidence on the back of our good form. However, we will keep our feet firmly on the ground and concentrate on continuing to improve as a team.

"Jenks (Assistant Manager Iain Jenkins) watched Arbroath on Wednesday night and it was a poor result for them. But they will be looking to put that right and we will require the same level of work rate and performance if we want to take something from this game."

Mark Baxter returned to training this week but requires some match practice before returning to 1st team duty.  Darren McGregor and John Dempster are still unavailable for selection due to illness and injury respectively.
