BLUE BRAZIL SET TO SCORE AS IRN-BRU KICKS OFF

CANS FOR YOUTH TEAMS 2013

Cowdenbeath fans and members of the local community in Central Fife are being urged to once again get behind their local club to help score a share of cash for their local youth teams.

Now in its second season, Cans for Youth Teams is a club investment initiative from IRN-BRU and the Scottish Football League (SFL) which awards each of the 30 teams in the SFL a share of a £70,000 prize fund. The more IRN-BRU cans collected by Cowdenbeath supporters, the larger the share their club receives. With £10,000 available for the top club from each division, competition will be stronger than ever.

Cans for Youth Teams collection bins will be placed at Central Park and participating local stores and key venues in the community, allowing members of the public out shopping or fans attending a game to drop in their empty cans of IRN-BRU before the cut-off date of Saturday 4 May.

The IRN-BRU bus will also be stopping off at Central Park for the home match against Livingston on Tuesday 9 April to further encourage fans to get collecting.

Last year’s Cans for Youth Teams’ division winners have each already reaped their benefits of the £10,000 prize money. Hamilton Academicals, Cowdenbeath and Alloa have been able to invest in Youth Development staff, extra scouts and training kits for their youth teams.

Martin Steele, Senior Brand Manager for IRN-BRU, said: “IRN-BRU believes that the continued success of Scottish football lies in developing the players of tomorrow. That’s why we are committed to continuing our Cans for Youth Teams initiative in 2013 and investing another £70,000 in Scotland’s national sport.

“Last season’s response to the campaign was phenomenal and we’re again calling on all fans and communities across the country to support their club and put their empty IRN-BRU cans to good use.”

David Longmuir, Chief Executive for the SFL, said: “Year on year more resources are being placed on developing and nurturing the incredible young talent we have here in Scotland with youth development a real priority for all thirty SFL teams.

“In tough financial times, IRN-BRU’s £70,000 investment in Cans for Youth Teams will provide a much needed boost for clubs throughout all three divisions helping to provide better equipment, training facilities and improved coaching.

“Last year’s campaign was a great success and I urge all football fans to help their team climb the prize league by supporting the campaign and dropping off their empty cans in the IRN-BRU bins. This is a chance to make a real difference to your club. ”

Supporters can follow their teams progress this year through the Cans for Youth Teams League Table which will be issued to press and available online at www.phenomenalfooty.com. The final league table will be unveiled at the IRN-BRU SFL Phenomenal End of Season Awards due to take place on the 23 May 2013.
