MATCH PREVIEW – PARTICK THISTLE

After Saturday’s draw with Raith Rovers we are quickly back in home league action on Tuesday night when we host Partick Thistle at the third time of asking after the fixture was postponed in December and earlier this month due to frost.

Although the Glasgow side have won the three previous meetings this season they have been close affairs.

Back on 22nd September on our last visit to Firhill the Jags ran out 2-1 winners. Aaron Muirhead gave them the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half but Jamie Stevenson equalised early in the second half with a 30 yard shot.

However an unfortunate own goal from Scott Linton with 20 minutes to go, saw Thistle edge through.

A few weeks later the sides met at Central Park in the Semi Final of the Ramsdens Cup before the live BBC Alba cameras and a goal 16 minutes from time saw Thistle reach their first national cup final since their famous 1971 League Cup win over Celtic.

Our trip to Firhill in January was Jackie McNamara’s last game in charge of Thistle before taking over as Dundee United boss.

Despite taking the lead through Kane Hemmings goals from Steven Craig and Conrad Balatoni saw another 2-1 win for the home side.

Since replacing McNamara interim boss Alan Archibald has been unbeaten in his three games in charge with a 2-2 draw at Morton which has been followed by home 1-0 wins over Hamilton and Airdrie.

MATCH SPONSORS – BLACK & MARKIE SOLICITORS (DUNFERMLINE).

COWDEN FORM

We are currently on a six game unbeaten run at home in the Irn Bru First Division. Since losing to Dumbarton on 10th November we have had two wins and four draws at Central Park.

Our home league record so far this season is

Played 12 Won 3 Drawn 6 Lost 3 Goals For 21 Goals Against 21 Points 15.

PARTICK THISTLE FORM

The Jags are currently in second place in the table five points behind Morton although they have played two games less than the league leaders.

Despite only dropping three points at home their form away from Firhill isn’t as impressive with their last league win on the road coming on 15th September when they beat Livingston 2-1. Their other away day success was at Dunfermline back in August.

In their last away outing on 16th February they drew 2-2 at Cappielow against Morton despite taking a two goal lead just after half time.

Partick Thistle’s away record so far this season is

Played 10 Won 2 Drawn 5 Lost 3 Goals For 10 Goals Against 13 Points 11.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Steven Craig has proved to be a thorn in our side since he was signed from Ross County earlier this season.

The son of former Cowden manager Joe (who made the half time draw at Firhill during our visit in January) has scored in both the games he has played in against us this season.

Taking charge of the match is Craig Charleston who will be assisted by Gavin Harris and Howard Wilkin.
