Cowden 4 - 1 Falkirk

Posted February 9, 2013

Its been a long wait but we smashed our unwanted run of 16 league games without a win in style at Central Park on Saturday afternoon. In form hit man Lyle Taylor had opened the scoring for the Bairns with just two minutes on the clock but two goals in a three minute spell from stand in captain John Armstrong and Kane Hemmings gave us the lead at the break.

Sponsors 'Man of the Match' Armstrong then added a third goal with 17 minutes to go before Jamie Stevenson fired home a low 25 yard free kick in injury time.

As the sides haven't met very often on league business over the last few decades this was our first home league win over the Bairns since 25th March 1978! when Jimmy Marshall hit a first half brace with Paul Leetion pulling a goal back for Falkirk in the second half.

Manager Colin Cameron was delighted to get the three points on board "It was a well deserved win which I always felt was going to come but took a bit longer than I had hoped." The gaffer continued "The players showed great character to comeback after losing the early goal and it was a good team effort which we can hopefully build on."

Falkirk manager Steven Pressley speaking to the media after the game said "In the opening 20-25 minutes we started really well but two set backs in three minutes saw us lose our way." Pressley concluded "In the end, in my three years here this has been the most dissapointing afternoon."

Despite the win we remain in ninth place following Dumbarton's 3-2 win at Livingston although we have moved three points ahead of Airdrie United who lost 4-0 at home to league leaders Morton.
