Match Preview: Cowdenbeath v Peterhead

Posted October 9, 2009

It's the clash of the blues on Saturday when the Blue Brazil play host to the Blue Toon at Central Park.

The game marks the completion of a great first quarter of the season for Cowden with Danny Lennon's team siting proudly in fourth top spot with 11 points from 8 games after last weekend's 2-0 away triumph at Stenhousemuir. It has been an impressive start for Cowden's young squad after their late introduction to the 2nd Division and credit is due to the coaching staff given that the club is operating on a fraction of the budget that was available during Cowden's last season in the 2nd Division. Lennon is looking for is his to continue their good form and not take their eye off the ball against very difficult opponents:

"Peterhead are an established 2nd Division side so we know how difficult it's going to be.

"We need to continue with the level of performances and work rate that have taken us to fourth spot. It has been a great start to the season and we have nothing to fear in this league but we will not be getting carried away."

The sides last met in July when Cowden, then a 3rd Division side, knocked Peterhead out of the MG ALBA Cup after a 2-1 victory at the Balmoor Stadium thanks to goals from Scott McBride and Paul McQuade.

John Armstrong will be in the squad again after featuring as a trialist last weekend. On the injury front, Kenny Adamson returns to the squad after illness while Mark Baxter, Darren McGregor and John Dempster are all making good progress and could come back into contention in the next few weeks. Peterhead have an injury doubt over Martin Bavidge but hope to include former Aberdeen and Queen of the South striker John Stewart as a trialist.
