Posted September 7, 2012

MATCH PREVIEW – EAST STIRLINGSHIRE

Sunday afternoon see’s us take a break from the Irn Bru First Division as we head to Ochilview Park to face East Stirlingshire in the Quarter Final of the Ramsdens Cup.
This is the fourth time that we have reached the Quarter Finals of the Challenge Cup and will be looking to go one better than previous games at this stage when we lost to Clyde (1990), Dunfermline Athletic (1994) and Airdrie United (2008).
To reach the Quarter Finals we have beaten Alloa Athletic on penalties after a 1-1 draw and East Fife 3-0 with both games taking place at Central Park.
This will be our first meeting with the Shire since May 2009 when we beat them over two legs in the Third Division Play-Off Semi Final, ironically two of the Shire players from that season Marc McKenzie and Jamie Stevenson now ply their trade at Central Park.

COWDEN FORM
We head over the Kincardine Bridge on the back of 4 wins the latest being our 3-0 victory over Airdrie United at the Excelsior Stadium last week thanks to goals from Kyle Miller, Lewis Coult and Marc McKenzie.

EAST STIRLINGSHIRE FORM
Shire currently lie at the foot of the Third Division and are still looking for their first point of the season following defeats from Queen’s Park, Rangers, Elgin City and Berwick Rangers.
However in the Ramsdens Cup they have beaten two sides from higher divisions to reach the Quarter Final stage.
Newly relegated Ayr United were beaten 3-1 at Ochilview in the opening round and this was followed up by a 3-0 home win over an Airdrie United side who at the time led the First Division.
In the Scottish Communities League Cup they had another home game which saw Morton run out 5-1 winners.

Michael Herd has scored 4 league and cup goals so far this season for John Coughlin’s side including a brace against Ayr United in the opening round.
