Match Preview - Airdrie V Cowdenbeath

Posted August 30, 2012

We are on the road once more on Saturday when we face Jimmy Boyle’s Airdrie United side at the Excelsior Stadium with a 3 p.m. kick off.

After last week’s win over Hamilton at Central Park Colin Cameron will be looking for a Lanarkshire double against the Diamonds.

The sides of course met last season in the Second Division with Cowden recording two wins with the other games ending in draws.

New Spanish signing Pablo Navas has returned from Spain after spending last weekend in his homeland and could be added to the squad while Jamie Stevenson plays against the Diamonds for the first time since his summer move to Central Park.

COWDEN FORM

Last week’s win was our third on the trot after beating East Fife in the Ramsdens Cup and Dumbarton. Kyle Miller has scored in our last two home games and the youngster will be hoping to get his first ever away goal for the club.

AIRDRIE UNITED FORM

Despite only being promoted to the First Division at the last gasp following Rangers election to the Third Division the Diamonds started the league campaign with two wins over Dumbarton (4-1) and at Livingston (2-0).

Last Saturday however they lost 2-1 at home to Dunfermline after conceding two goals in the closing ten minutes.

In the cup competitions they had mixed fortunes. The Ramsdens Cup saw a 1-0 win at Hamilton which was followed by a 3-0 defeat against East Stirlingshire at Ochilview.

In the Scottish Communities League Cup they fell at the first hurdle losing 3-2 to Queen’s Park at Firhill after extra time.

John Boyle has bagged five league goals in the opening three games including a hat trick on the opening day in a 4-1 win over Dumbarton.
