Singapore’s answer to The Blue Brasil emulate their famous namesakes!
St Andrews FC, a team of predominantly Scottish expats playing in Singapore in the famous strips of Cowdenbeath recently secured the ESPZEN Saturday League Division 1 Championship. Singapore based Cowdenbeath Director, Mr Neil Fentie, who also sponsors the lads in Singapore put the pressure on the team to emulate the boys back home and deliver their first league title. The St Andrews squad duly succeeded with an exciting finale to the season, eventually securing the league on goal difference on the last day of the season. It has been the teams best season since their formation 6 years ago as they have bagged the league and are currently in the Cup semi finals. It also saw a first for the Asian Blue Brasil as they got to play their Cup Quarter Finals on what is stated as one of the worlds most unusual pitches, the pitch is on “The Singapore Floating Platform”, The Float as it is known is a floating pontoon tethered to dry land in the Marina Bay area of Singapore, there is a 30,000 seater stand on dry land and is used for National Day celebrations, Concerts etc………… The lads certainly enjoyed the experience considering they also won the match.
On behalf of the St Andrews squad, captain John Annat offered belated congratulations to Cowdenbeath for their emphatic league victory and thanks to Neil for the continued sponsorship of our Club in Singapore.
