COWDENBEATH 1 FORFAR ATHLETIC 1
Saturday 29th April, Ladbrokes League Two Match No 35, Att 577.
A draw with long time leaders Forfar ensured that we will go into the final game of the league campaign still in with a chance of avoiding the play off with either Buckie Thistle or East Kilbride.
It remained the status quo for the bottom three with Clyde and Berwick fighting out a similar score at Broadwood to keep both three points ahead of us going into the final day.
Renton returned to the side following his suspension along with Buchanan while O’Brien and Moore dropped to the bench.
With two minutes gone Milne sent a free kick over the bar for the visitors, with Cowden replying with a succession of corners.
Buchanan sent a header wide from a Pyper cross and midway through the half Carrick collected a long pass but a timely challenge from O’Brien stopped him in his tracks.
Munro then sent a few headers wide of target from Swankie’s corners while as the first half drew to a close Renton headed wide from a Mullen free kick into the box.
The second half was barely a minute old when we took the lead. Rutherford sent a long throw into the Loons box which was flicked back by Renton into the path of Robbie BUCHANAN who took a touch before firing a 20 yard shot into the top corner of the net.
Eight minutes later however we were reduced to then men when Rutherford was sent off for a challenge at the halfway line.
Despite the numerical disadvantage we were unlucky not to extend our lead in 64 minutes when Kyle Miller beat two defenders before seeing his shot from the edge of the box rebound off the underside of the bar.
However four minutes later Forfar got a lifeline when Lister backheeled the ball into the path of Danny DENHOLM who fire home with a low shot into the corner of the net.
Then from a Mullen corner a Syme header appeared to be net bound but Lister stopped it on the line.
As the clock wound down the visitors had one last chance to preserve their spot at the top of the table but Sneddon palmed Swankie’s 18 yard shot to safety.
