Competition: Communities Cup Referee: Mr John McKendrick
Venue: Firhill Attendance: 1544

A brave performance saw us hold Premiership Partick Thistle go a goal less draw in regulation time at Firhill on Tuesday night.

We made three changes to the side which had lost at Alloa with Grant Adam, Andrew Russell and Greg Stewart coming in to the starting line up with Thomas Flynn, Jordan Morton and Kane Hemmings dropping to the bench.

We started the game brightly and with six minutes gone Stewart set up Russell whose shot was deflected for a corner.

Chances were few and far between in the opening 45 minutes and a solid defensive display saw the sides’ level at the break.

With two minutes of the second period gone Adam had to be alert to get down to a low shot from Baird.

In 55 minutes Adamson weaved his way into the Thistle box and was upended by Muirhead with referee McKendrick quickly pointing to the spot. However Stevenson’s low spot kick was saved by Fox.

As the 90 minutes closed the home sides Baird was booked in the dying seconds for simulation.

A minute into extra time the home side broke the deadlock when sub Christie Elliott was set up by fellow replacement Lawless and he fired home a low drive past Adam.

However we were soon back on level terms when Kane Hemmings fired home a low shot and then was then denied by a good save by Fox.

Armstrong then came close with a header as we looked to take the lead.

As the first period of added time came to a close Steven Lawless fired home a low drive to put his side back in front and with six minutes to go Aaron Muirhead confirmed their Third Round place when he slotted home from the penalty spot after Morton had brought down Lawless.
