Pre-season update

PostedJuly 22, 2009

A young Cowden side ran out convincing winners against their East of Scotland League counterparts at the Saughton 3G on Wednesday night. Two trialists had Cowden two up after 25 minutes before the home side pulled a goal back on the hour. Two well taken goals from new signing Scott McBride in the closing 15 minutes sealed our win, firstly he headed home from a King corner then with four minutes to go he completed a memorable double with a low drive from 16 yards. Final score: Lothian Thistle 1-4 Cowdenbeath XI TEAM: Trialist (Murray Jackson 68), Jamie Reid, Jay Stein, Peter Bradley, Dene Droudge, Thomas O'Brien (Martyn Robinson 68), Trialist, Marek Tomana (Dean Brett 77), John Ferguson (Derek wallace 53), Trialist (Chris king 63) & Scott McBride. Cowden put in a spirited display to earn a draw with First Division County at Victoria Park last Saturday afternoon. Despite early pressure from the home side, which included five corners in the opening five minutes, we weathered the storm to take the lead on the half hour mark when John Dempster flicked in a header at the near post. The lead was short lived however when Gary Wood fired an angled shot past Hay 60 seconds later.
