East Fife 2 Cowdenbeath 2

Posted January 16, 2010

The Blue Brazil twice came from behind thanks to a double from Gareth Wardlaw to secure a deserved share of the spoils in a fascinating Fife derby at New Bayview.

The weather may have had wiped out the entire 2nd Division card since the 15th of December but the Bayview pitch was in fine condition and this end-to-end old fashioned derby proved great entertainment value for the football starved audience with a match jam packed with goal scoring chances and talking points.

Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock in the first few minutes before East Fife opened the scoring on 15 minute. David Hay brilliantly saved a point blank header from Paul McManus - who looked a yard or so offside - but the ball fell to Bobby Linn to slot into the empty net.

Cowden took a while to settle after the goal but slowly came back into the match and deservedly equalised through Gareth Wardlaw 16 minutes later before Paul McManus missed a penalty for the hosts on the stoke of half-time.

Lloyd Young's (81) backpost header looked to have won the game for East Fife but Danny Lennon's team refused to accept defeat and Wardlaw evened the scores three minutes from time with a clinical finish from 18-yards.
