A last gasp goal from substitute Mark Gilhaney sent Alloa undeservedly into the 4th round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup and a tie against SPL side St. Mirren.
Chances were far and few at Recreation Park in the 3rd round replay but Cowden will be disappointed after dominating possession for long spells. Despite the territorial advantage Cowden failed to break down a well organised Alloa side.
Mark Ramsay came close for the Blue Brazil in the opening half after creating the chance for himself but his shot was too close to the keeper while John Armstrong headed clear at the other end. Scott McBride came close again for the home side but it remained all square at the break.
A McBride free kick 10 minutes from time looked to have won it for Cowden but the ball came back off the inside of the post and Gilhaney won it for Alloa with a scrappy goal two minutes remaining.
"It's very disappointing to exit the Scottish Cup but I cant fault the players work rate or application", commented Danny Lennon.
"It was a tight game with not much between the sides. However, we had the majority of possession and the better of the limited chances on the night but if you don't score you don't win football games.
"Credit to Alloa and we wish them well in the next round. We will dust ourselves down and get ready for Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night."
