Another Win In Portugal

Cowdenbeath Development Squad finished off their Erasmus+ Training Camp with a convincing 4-2 win against local amateur side Quarteirians.
The young Blue Brazil’s opponents whilst only an amateur side, provided stiff opposition as the majority of their players were significantly older and stronger than their Fife counterparts. It was testament to the young lad’s character that twice they came from behind in the first half before eventually running out 4-2 winners.
Goals in the first half from trialist centre back David McKay cancelled out early strikes from the Portugese team. McKay on both occasions took advantage of a failure to clear the ball from corners by the team from Quarteira to score from within the 6 yard box. This was enough to send the teamin at half time 2-2.
The second half saw Cowdenbeath dominate their older opponents. Two goals from striker Declan Byrne consolidated their dominance. His first saw him pounce on a long through ball striking home from 10 yards and the second came from an expertly taken free kick from the edge of the box.
Coach Derek Nicholson stated…
‘I was delighted with the way the lads came back twice from being a goal down in the first half. It showed great character. Tonight’s game was a tougher test physically than the game against Aldershot last Sunday and to their credit the players responded really well. The training camp has been a great experience for everyone and seeing the players close up every day doing double sessions has been a great opportunity to learn more about them. All of this would not have been possible without funding from Erasmus+’
