Cowdenbeath 2 Dumbarton 1

PostedNovember 14, 2009

The Blue Brazil held onto top spot and extended our unbeaten run to seven games as Paul McQuade's late goal won it against a good Dumbarton side.

Dumbarton edged it in the first half but it took an uncharacteristic mistake from John Armstrong to give them the opening goal. 'Chopper' looked odds on to pick up the ball 20 yards from goal but took his eye off the ball and Andy Geggan (5) took advantage to shoot home from the edge of the penalty area.

Armstrong made amends 13 minutes later when he was brought down in the box and Paul McQuade (18) stepped up to equalise from the spot.

It was all Cowden after the break but their final ball was lacking until Scott Linton put in a fantastic delivery for McQuade to cooly finish at the near post with eight minutes remaining.

Dumbarton pushed for an equaliser but Cowden deservedly held out for the win thanks to a late save from David Hay and terrific goal line clearance from Linton.

The result was all the more impressive as it was the Son's first away league defeat since August and brought their five match unbeaten run to an end.
