Kane Hemmings 19th goal of the season saw us break our run of home defeats to claim all three points in Saturday's derby game at a rain drenched Central Park.
After an even opening 45 minutes Jimmy Nicholl's side had the better of the second half and were rewarded with 20 minutes to go when skipper John Armstrong headed a corner into the path of Hemmings who nodded the ball past Ross Laidlaw from close range.
It was a good day all round and we are now four points behind 8th place Livingston who went down to a 2-1 home defeat from Queen of the South while we moved two points further away from bottom side Morton who drew 1-1 at Falkirk.
This Saturday we have a free week due to the William Hill Scottish Cup. Our next Championship game is on Saturday 15th February when we meet Morton at Cappielow Park.
