PostedOctober 10, 2009

5-star Cowden dismantled Peterhead at Central Park this afternoon with an attacking masterclass as a brace apiece from Paul McQuade and Gareth Wardlaw along with an early contender for goal of the season from Jon Robertson completed the first quarter of the season in style.

McQuade returned to the starting line-up after Scott McBride missed training last week due to illness and the hitman opened the scoring from close range after 24 minutes and doubled his tally six minutes before the break.

The Blue Brazil upped the tempo further after the break and a double from Wardlaw (48 & 85) and a strike from Robertson completed the rout. Robbo's was the pick of the day firing into the top corner from 30 yards after Jay Stein picked the young midfielder out from a corner kick.

The win moves Cowden into third place in the league level on points with Alloa Athletic and was achieved with three youth academy graduates - Scott Linton, Dene Droudge and Jon Robertson - in the starting line-up. All three were brought through the ranks by one of the the youth systems unsung heroes, Jim Ward.
