Legends v Supporters

PostedMay 21, 2012

Saturday saw the first annual match where Cowdenbeath Supporters took on a Cowdenbeath Legends side at Central Park. Fundraising was the name of the game with Cancer Research benefitting to the sum of 715.00, donated in memory of John 'Toorie' Winter whose son Craig served the club for a number of years.

The event organised by life long Cowden supporters Stuart Juner, Scott Gallagher and Colin Nelson, saw the teams take the park and play a fairly high tempo and enjoyable match where the experienced legends overcame an enthusiastic and energetic supporters team 5-0. The legends goals were scored by Craig Winter, Pat Scullion (2), Graeme Brown & Danny McKay.

Stuart commented, "It is a testimony to a club like Cowdenbeath to be able to call on former players who still have an affection and willingness to turn out and contribute to such an event and worthy cause. We can only thank them for their efforts and attitude on the day to help make it a memorable event for the supporters involved".

The legends squad consisted of: Kris Bower(GK), Richard Baillie, Eric Archibald, Alan Archibald, Gus Malone, Bryan Gilfillan, Pat Scullion, Ian Paterson, Hamish French, Craig Winter, Graham Brown, Danny McKay and Jordan Archibald.

Stuart continued, "We had considered, prior to the match, making this an annual event and given the success of this match both sets of players agreed there will be a repeat next year with the supporters looking for revenge".

A special thanks to the club, for hosting the event and Darren Adamson for his off the field assistance.
