Match Preview- Cowdenbeath v Airdrie

PostedMay 3, 2012

It’s the final game in what has been an amazing season on Saturday when we host Airdrie United.
Although we have nothing more than pride to play for it is a different story for Jimmy Boyle’s Diamonds side who need the three points to secure the final play-off spot.
The Diamonds sit on 51 points along with Stenhousemuir but are two goals better off than their Ochilview counterparts.
After the game the team will be presented with the Second Division Championship trophy.

Please DO NOT run onto the pitch after the game! as this will action will hold up the Celebrations!

Match Sponsor on Saturday is Football Nation who will be selling our new Umbro shirts and championship memorabilia in the club shop. We hope that Steven Dow from Football Nation and his party enjoy their day with us.
Match Ball Sponsor is Matthew Hore who is travelling all the way up from Plymouth with a group of friends to back the Blue Brazil. We also hope that Matthew and his friends enjoy their day at Central Park.

Colin Cameron will be once again watching the game from the touchline following his recent knee operation.
Last week he fielded several of our fringe players to give them first team experience and may do likewise on Saturday.

We have played 17 home league games this season winning 13, drawing 3 and losing once. We have scored 37 times conceding 10.

The Diamonds currently sit in fourth place on 51 points and will be hoping to secure the final play-off spot.
Airdrie have only lost once in their last ten league games during which they have won 7 and drawn 3 of their matches.

The Diamonds will be without top scorer Ryan Donnelly and Willie McLaren for Saturday’s game due to suspension.

We have been unbeaten in the previous three games with two wins and a draw. Back in August we ran out 5-1 winners at the Excelsior Stadium. After Ryan Donnelly had given the Diamonds an early lead goals from Scott Linton (2), Jon Robertson, Lewis Coult and Jordan Morton gave us our first ever win over the current Airdrie club.
The return game at Central Park; in January saw a 2-0 win thanks to goals in either half from Marc McKenzie and Mark Ramsay from the penalty spot.
Our second visit to Airdrie; in March saw a 1-1 draw with Sean Lynch giving the Diamonds a half time lead before Mark Ramsay once again scored from the penalty spot.

Taking charge of the game is Euan Norris. Stand side assistant is Graham McNellie with Craig Sim on the terrace side.

Cowdenbeath Football Club, the SFL and the SFA are committed to ensuring that a safe and enjoyable matchday experience is had by all.
We all have a role in ensuring the match is played in a positive atmosphere free from violence, disorder and offensive behaviour.
Let's protect our good reputation and make this an atmosphere to be proud of!
The Club would like to ask Fans to keep Off the pitch at Full time to allow the players to recieve the trophy and their medals and get photos taken!
